Ecosteryl acquires Bertin Medical Waste and becomes the leader in sustainable medical waste treatment solutions

Ecosteryl acquires Bertin Medical Waste, sold by the Bertin Technologies group, strengthening its position as the global leader in 100% electric medical treatment technologies.

Ecosteryl, a global specialist in medical waste treatment and sorting solutions, announces the acquisition of Bertin Medical Waste.
This strategic move marks the acquisition of a player also active in the microwave segment for medical waste disinfection and consolidates Ecosteryl’s position as a key player force in the sector.

Two strong brands, two complementary segments

This complementarity makes it possible to cover the entire global market, from small hospital waste producers to large national operators.

Ecosteryl (AMB s.a.) and Bertin Medical Waste (Sterilwave) remain two distinct identities, each maintaining its natural positioning and its network:

Bertin Medical Waste
→ Compact solutions mainly intended for hospitals, clinics and laboratories, with machines processing from 10kg to 150kg per hour.

Ecosteryl
→ Industrial solutions for medical waste management operators, specialised service providers, regional treatment centres, and platforms integrating disinfection, with machines processing from 75 to 500kg per hour, as well as sorting.

To treat medical waste, both entities are perfectly aligned on the global shift toward electric solutions, enabling the production of disinfected, dry waste ready to be sorted and recycled. Direct incineration or autoclave solutions are considered too harmful to the environment.

“Through this technological synergy, we now have a coherent and complementary product range on the market, designed for different types of users. Reducing the energy requirements of machines and the ability to integrate waste as a circular resource were shared priorities for both entities,” says Romain Dufrasne, CEO of Ecosteryl.

A French-Belgian alliance through the strategic acquisition of a major, complementary European player

By integrating Bertin Medical Waste into its portfolio, Ecosteryl:

  • acquires over a historically strong brand anchored in microwave medical waste treatment technologies,
  • expands its footprint in the hospital sector (on-site treatment, directly in clinics and hospitals),
  • joins forces with another European leader to face global competition,
  • secure its position in a rapidly evolving market,
  • preserves its industrial DNA and technological leadership for large-capacity systems.

For clients: total continuity and enhanced services

Current users and distributors of Bertin Medical Waste retain the same technology, and access to all parts, services, and maintenance.  In the future, they will even benefit from reinforced service offerings.

For their part, Ecosteryl partners and clients will benefit from even sharper expertise, the most consistent on the market.

Bruno Vallayer, President of Bertin Technologies Group, states:

“Selling Bertin Medical Waste today to Ecosteryl means seeing it gain a global dimension and contributing to the emergence of the leader in this sector. A great trajectory for an innovation born from the talent of our teams. As for Bertin Technologies, it continues its focus on its core market: instrumentation for critical applications.”

Olivier Dufrasne, President of Ecosteryl, is proud of this strategic milestone in the context of this acquisition:

“By associating this key player in the sector, we will strengthen our international presence in order to better meet the needs and service expectations of our customers through closer proximity. This acquisition will help ensure our long-term sustainability and continued growth, while preserving our identity, which is firmly focused on the sustainable development of our activities.”

The future promises new opportunities.
